On Wednesday and Thursday this week, NG Media staged a Turlku Purtingkatja Festival. Blackstone community played host and a large number of singers, dancers and interested onlookers gathered for the performance of traditional singing and dancing.
Older singers and dancers enacted tjukurpa and stories through traditional dances and songs. Younger performers were involved, learning the stories and the steps from older people. It was a sign of the strength of the culture and the importance that practices such as these still hold within the communities.
The NG Media team was there to record the event and to assist with the needs of the many artists.
Funding was provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Communications and the Arts.
